A Picture of The RPAC

It was a sunny afternoon. Great weather made me feel really good. We can see through the window on the left side of the photo. It is bright outside and green leaves are shining under the sun. After class, my friend and I went to get something to eat, and we were eating when I took this picture, so the first thing shown on the picture is those dining table things. From far sight of the center of the photo, we can see the Courtside smoothes place. On the upper floor, there are couples of running machines with people running on them. And on the right side of the photo, we can see a big Ohio logo with Welcome Center under it. The whole decoration inside the building looks pretty modern.
Some people are sitting at tables, eating and chatting. They are wearing casual clothes, so apparently they are not here for working out; they might just want to hang out in this place, get some food, talk with friends. The guy in the central part of the picture, grabbing maybe a black sweater in a white shirt, red sports shorts and black sneakers, looks like he just finished his working out and he is ready to leave. This guy and those people who are running on running machines are all wearing sports clothes.
The main intended function of The RPAC is for people to do any sports they want and work out, while they can get some healthy food afterwards. However, some people will just go there for the food or get a place to relax themselves. Now, let's have a look at the boy and the girl with their back to the camera. They are holding each other's hand, so I assume they are a couple. Also, they are not going to work out since they are both wearing jeans and shirts. Maybe they are going to get some smoothies and find some place in The RPAC to enjoy their afternoon. Therefore, I think the other function of this place is for couples to hang around.

My Thought About Academic Writing

Before I came to college, I lived and studied in China, where everything is completely different from here. Because the large population makes everything so competitive, we studied writing only to deal with exams which are the most important things in ourlives.

Theoretically, we could use three different genres of writing, which were argumentative paper, prose and poetry, but actually we were encouraged to write argumentative paper since it is easier and safer during the exams, which is kind of like SAT essay but we write in Chinese. Just because we needed to write during exams, we had to write in a short time like fifty minutes to an hour while making our paper interesting and reasonable at the same time. It was pretty hard at first and then went better.

The criteria of a good writing are whether if the paper fully explain and prove its argument in a fluent way and is it entertaining and amusing for readers to attract their attention and the most important- good hand writing. Our teachers would grade our writing based on those criteria.

This kind of writing helped me with logical thinking although it was in Chinese, but I don't think that is enough for me to do writing in college. I took EDU T&L 107 and 108 classes, which are both writing classes for non-English native speakers, and I found there are huge differences between what I did in China, such as format, researching and especially plagiarism, and I need to write in English.
